A YOUTH group has been given a grant to decorate the entrance to its meeting place to make it more attractive to visitors.
The Harmony Youth Project, which is based at Wordsworth Trading Estate in Halliwell, has an upstairs media suite that includes film-editing and DJ equipment.
The suite is very popular with the young members, but manager Charlie Barrett said the entrance and stairway of the building is quite rundown and tends to be intimidating to new visitors.
He said: “We applied for a grant so we could brighten the place up and make it more inviting.
“The young people are all getting a say in the consultation.
“They will also be able to help with the painting, which we hope to start in the next few weeks.”
The group has been given a £3,700 grant from Bolton at Home’s Percent For Art scheme, which will be used to create bright murals on the walls and up the stairs leading to the youth project’s media suite.
Five artists from Manchester will be showing the teenagers different painting styles, including spray painting.
So far, more than 25 young people have signed up to help out.
A spokesman for Bolton at Home said: “As part of our approach to neighbourhood regeneration, we are delighted to support such an excellent project and dedicated team.”
