A GROUP of school pals who formed a band are set to hit the small screen — playing the part of a fictitious group in ITV drama, Blue Murder.
The lads, former Thornleigh School pupils, are members of indie rock band Kinky Bosco.
They will appear in the popular crime series alongside former Coronation Street actress, Tina O’Brien.
But lead singer Michael Winniczuk’s moment of fame is only fleeting — as he is “killed” early on in the proceedings.
Bass player John Wilson, aged 29, works as an assistant editor at Granada and when he heard the producers were looking for a band he was happy to oblige.
“They were going to use an actor for the part of the murdered singer but decided to go with Michael, which was great,” said John, who is from Farnworth.
Although four of the five band members met at school, it was not until they left that they decided to form Kinky Bosco.
Paul Gallagher and Gareth Smedley who both play guitar and drummer Garry Goodinson make up the popular local band.
Kinky Bosco are renamed Rule 7 for the drama and get to sing one of their own songs, Ruby Super, supposedly at the Apollo in Manchester — although the shots were filmed at the Manchester Academy.
“It was great being involved in that side of things,” said John, who usually works in an office piecing together film.
Tina O’Brien plays Michael’s on-screen girlfriend in the detective drama set in Manchester.
The episode This Charming Man will be broadcast on Monday at 9pm on ITV1.
