A mouse lover from Bolton called for help when her three pet mice multiplied to 100.
Staff from the Bolton branch of the RSPCA were called when dozens of the animals escaped and were running loose at the house in Great Lever.
The owner was unable to care for the creatures, so they were rounded up — although a few evaded capture — and taken to the RSPCA’s Bolton base.
Now RSPCA branch administrator Kathy Kay is appealing for potential owners to come forward.
“We are in a desperate situation and would love to find homes for the mice as soon as possible, “ she said.
“We can’t continue to keep them here at the office.”
The mice are currently housed in cages at the St George’s Road office but as mice can get through the tiniest of spaces they regularly escape.
She added that mice were nocturnal creatures and provided great entertainment value when cared for by experienced people. She said the RSPCA was against pet shops selling the rodents and added that if shops offered to take the off-spring back there was no guarantee they would not be sold on as snake food.
Anyone who can help, should ring the Bolton RSPCA on 01204 521160.
