THEY have given blood 300 times between them, potentially helping to save the lives of up to 900 patients at local hospitals.
Now these four men from Bolton have been recognised by the National Blood Service for reaching the milestone of 75 donations.
An awards ceremony was held at Lancashire County Cricket Club to reward them for their lifetime dedication.
Malcolm Bunker, Anthony Connell, Roy Bromilow and Kevin Stephens were presented with crystal plates at the lunchtime bash by Rebecca Hall, and her four-year-old son, Tyler, from Stalybridge.
They know how important donors are because Tyler suffers from Spherosytosis, a blood disorder which requires regular transfusions to help him lead a normal life.
Every blood donation can potentially save three lives, meaning the four men may have helped up to 225 people each.
The donors say they do it to help people who are ill and are encouraging others to join them.
Mr Bunker, aged 58, said: “I wanted to contribute to the local community and to help others.
“It’s a worthwhile and appreciated activity and only takes a short while, but benefits so many.”
Cllr Connell, who is also a former Mayor of Bolton, said: “So many people depend on blood donations, lots of people wouldn’t survive without them. I never thought I’d get to 75 donations. It’s quite an achievement and I hope it raises awareness and encourages others to become donors.”
Pam Prescott, communications officer for The National Blood service, said: “All our donors are special, but it is a pleasure to thank our dedicated donors in this way.
“They continue to make time to donate, come rain or shine, and really are the lifeblood of our service.”
Anyone aged over 17, who weighs more than 50kg (seven stone, 12 lbs) and is in general good health could become a donor.
