FREE ice skating is to be offered to people living in Breightmet.
Bolton at Home is planning to hold a “Breightmet on Ice” event, from December 10 to 12, where residents will be able to skate on a dry ice rink at Dome Park, off Milnthorpe Road.
Work should start on building the 12m by 12m rink following site inspections next week.
As well as open skating sessions, some are likely to be reserved for local schools and families over the three days, with further attractions lined up for the Saturday including a helter skelter and live Bolton FM broadcast.
Cllr Noel Spencer, chairman of Bolton at Home, the organisation which manages Bolton’s council houses, said: “We’re excited as to what Breightmet on Ice could bring to the area for residents.
“It’s a community focused activity, which is especially important at this time of the year.”
Breightmet is not the only place in the borough where residents will be able to get their skates on.
Last month, The Bolton News reported how Westhoughton was also getting an ice rink as part of its festive celebrations.
WACO — Westhoughton Active Communities Organisation — is organising a festive event for December 20 and 21.
Among the activities on offer will be the 10m by 10m ice rink in the back of the market hall.
Westhoughton Town Council agreed to fund the ice rink, at a cost of £3,520.
Gaynor Ratcliff, one of the founding members of WACO, said: “The back of the market hall will be a full blown winter wonderland. There will be an ice rink with a snow machine.
“We want it to be for everybody, so it is one that is suitable for people in wheelchairs and young children.”
