A Christmas crackdown is being la-unched tomorrow to make people in Bolton feel safer over the festive period.
And to mark the start of Operation Sherry, police chiefs will be holding their daily briefing in Victoria Square.
Briefings, in which officers are told what jobs they will be working on that day, are normally held behind closed doors.
But police are keen to give the public an insight into the work they do, and hope that it will encourage them to come forward with information.
Sgt Paul Ellis, who is leading the operation, said: “We are inviting anyone who wants to help reduce crime in the town centre to come along to the briefing.
“These people can be our extra eyes and ears and tell us of any concerns they have so we can try to prevent crimes from happening.
“We want to make sure there are fewer victims of crime this Christmas.
“We want shoppers and people out in the town centre at night time to feel safe, and make sure it is safe.”
Officers will also be talking to commuters and handing out newsletters at Bolton train station, Moor Lane bus station and Church Bank subway.
The briefing will take place at 8.45am.
There will also be a town crier giving out advice and officers will be handing out packs with cat bells for handbags and purses — which prevent pickpockets — and burglary kits containing advice and information.
The annual drink drive campaign, Think Safe, Drink Safe, will be launched on Friday, and will include bottles of water with safety messages being handed out, and Bluetooth messages with safety advice being sent out to mobile phones in pubs and clubs.
