German market in Bolton promises a cracking Christmas

THE man who helped to make Bolton Food and Drink Festival a huge success is returning to the town to help put on festive fun throughout December.

Arnd Baggen, who is also Manchester’s Christmas Markets’ supremo, stages continental food and drink events across Europe.

He brought traders to Bolton’s own Food and Drink Festival in August, and will now be bringing back a selection of stallholders selling specialist continental food and drink.

A traditional Bavarian beerhouse selling six types of gluwein and German beers will also take centre stage in Victoria Square.

The continental traders will be in operation every day from December 5 until December 20 and stalls will be open from 10am to 6pm and will stay open longer to coincide with late night shopping on Thursdays.

Running alongside the continental traders, a festive food and crafts market and a whole host of entertainment will be laid on in Victoria Square. The stalls will be selling goods ranging from Christmas cakes and preserves to pickles and sauces and there will be arts and craft stalls with handmade cards, soaps, jewellery and handbags.

A festive marquee will accompany the market with performers and entertainers from brass bands to local singers, dancers and entertainers for all ages.

The marquee will be open from 10am to 6pm on Friday and Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sundays.

Council leader Cllr Cliff Morris said: “It’s going to be a cracking Christmas with continental and local traders livening up the town centre. There will be more than 20 stalls selling seasonal food, drinks and gifts, with traditional entertainment.

“It’s great that we’ve secured Arnd Baggen again and we’re hoping that if the festive market formula works successfully this year, then we can look to doing something similar in future.”
