A hairdresser was thrilled to meet one of Michael Jackson’s brothers when he styled the hair of performers in a new TV talent show.
Jignesh Madhavji, aged 24, of Derby Street, Daubhill, was given the chance to practise his coiffuring skills backstage yesterday on BBC3 show Move Like Michael Jackson.
The programme is looking for the country’s best Michael Jackson-inspired dance group, and hundreds of entrants from all over the country have been whittled down to 16 for the final.
The show’s producers asked Mr Madhavji to travel to the BBC studios in London and style the dancers’ hair before they went on stage.
Michael Jackson’s brother, Jermaine Jackson, is one of the show’s judges, and Mr Madhavji said he could not wait to meet him.
Speaking before the show was filmed yesterday, he said: “I was shocked when they asked me. I think it’s going to open a lot of doors for me, and I think it’ll build my profile up as well.
“ He said the show’s Michael Jackson theme would give him the opportunity to flex his creative muscles when entrusted with the dancers’ hair.
He said: “I’m going to do something funky and mad. I’ll work around them, obviously, but it’s going to be something wacky.
“They’re dancers, so they’re going to want something eye-catching.” Mr Madhavji, who works at Noggis in Bank Street, Bolton, was asked to take part in the show after featuring on BBC3 show Celebrity Scissorhands last year.
The first of six episodes of Move Like Michael Jackson will be shown tonight at 8.30pm on BBC3.
