FREE school meals could be back on the menu for primary pupils.
School chiefs are considering bidding for a slice of £35 million of government cash to fund free dinners.
Bolton Council introduced free school meals for a limited time in 2008 for reception children and showcased the scheme to the Government, which, shortly after, invited local authorities to bid for money to pilot a free school meals scheme to all. That is now being extended.
The Government is calling on local authorities to bid for money to trial universal free school meals to all primary aged children in at least one local authority area in each region of the country.
A Bolton Council spokesman said: “It’s something we are preparing a report on for the executive member’s consideration.”
