MISS England visited the Army’s careers office in Bolton yesterday and launched a search for the new face of Bolton.
Katrina Hodge, aged 22, who is also a soldier, was promoting the Miss Bolton contest which will take place at The Last Drop Hotel in May.
Organisers say they are looking for an ambassador for Bolton who can represent and promote their home town.
Lance Corporal Hodge, who was awarded a commendation for bravery after saving a colleague’s life when serving in Iraq in 2005, advised young women to just be themselves.
“Anybody who wants to enter the contest should just go for it.
“I thought I was going to be laughed at when I entered my local competition,” said Miss Hodge, from Kent, who has been granted six months’ leave to fulfil her role as Miss England.
She will represent England in the next Miss World final to be held in South Africa on December 12.
