Scheme to keep toddlers feeling healthy

A NEW scheme has been launched to make sure Bolton’s toddlers are happy and healthy.

NHS Bolton, the primary care trust which oversees local health services, is running special Happy Healthy Toddler Clubs (HHTC) to help parents develop good eating and activity habits in a fun way.

The free classes will run at children’s centres across the borough during 2010.

Parents and children will enjoy a fun physical activity session and a healthy snack then while the toddlers are cared for, their parents will discuss issues like managing family mealtimes, dealing with fussy eaters and portions sizes.

Lizzie Ashworth, from the Food and Health Team, said: “It is really important to establish healthy eating and activity habits while children are young”

“This will help to ensure that they grow up to be happy and healthy adults later life.”

Each scheme lasts eight weeks, two hours a week, for parents with children aged two to four.

Sessions start in Little Lever, Astley Bridge and Westhoughton in April and Great Lever, Hall I’th’ Wood and Rumworth in May.
