Health centre earns praise from the Secretary of State

HEALTH Secretary Andy Burnham yesterday revealed that people in Bolton could soon be able to choose which GP they use.

On a visit to Breightmet Health Centre, where the Leigh MP met Bolton North East MP David Crausby and campaigner Shirley Marsland, he urged voters to let Labour make the NHS “great”.

He said: “I think the NHS is good, but we know it can be great. For people who say that Labour has achieved nothing since 1997, I would tell them to look at Breightmet Health Centre.

“It is a superb facility and it is fantastic to see the library side by side with the health facilities. It is a flagship centre.”

One of the key Labour election pledges is going to be the opportunity for patients to choose their own GP.

Mr Burnham said: “If their GP is not offering them the service they expect, including evening and weekend availability, then they should have the chance to choose.”
