THE clash between Second Division leaders Sunderland and second placed Wanderers saw Burnden bulging as a crowd of 42,000 witnessed their clash on December 27, 1975.
The two heavyweights slugged out a thrilling match that was always in doubt up to the final whistle.
Wanderers had to show bags of courage to come from behind to topple the North east side, who went ahead just before half-time with an own goal by Bolton defender Tony Dunne.
It was current boss Sam Allardyce who helped Wanderers back into the game as he rose to head a 51st minute equaliser from Peter Thompson's swinging corner.
Then in the 70th minute, John Byrom sent the Wanderers fans wild when he tucked the ball inside Jim Montgomerie after good work by Peter Reid, ironically, now the boss of the Black Cats.
