CHORLEY Borough Council should be given more power to deal with 'monster masts'.

That's the view of councillor Helen Sutton following the publication of the Stewart Report this week.

She said: "All over Chorley, there is a growing proliferation of mobile phone masts which are often ugly and poorly-sighted.

"They are also causing considerable concerns over safety amongst residents of Lostock ward.

"There is currently a proposal to site a mast in Croston, in close proximity to Bishop Rawstorne School.

"With the next generation of mobile phones, there could be another 100,000 masts across Britain on the horizon."

The Tory councillor claimed a Conservative government would give greater protection against such masts.

And she criticised the present government, saying: "Labour have failed to deliver on their promise of being the 'greenest government ever'."
