A MYSTERY flow of water alongside the Jumbles Reservoir was still being investigated by North West Water today.

But it is now thought the stream of water near the main embankment is not a leak in the dam.

A spokeswoman for the water company said it is not yet clear what caused the small stream.

"We are not sure where it is coming from," she said.

"But we do not believe that it is related to the reservoir."

Investigators suspect the trickle could be caused by natural ground water escaping.

The discovery, and recent heavy rainfall, led North West Water to reduce the reservoir's level "as a precautionary measure."

The reservoir has now been pumped down to two meters below the normal level to help with the investigations.

North West Water, who said they inspect all reservoirs three times a week, said there was no danger of flooding.
