TWO 14-year-old boys and a youth of 15 were arrested after a 73-year-old woman was mugged on Bolton's Oldhams Estate at the weekend.

The teenagers were arrested after three youths on a scooter snatched the pensioner's handbag as she was taking a short cut home through a ginnel off Cameron Street.

The pensioner was nearly pulled to the ground but released her handbag as the thieves raced away.

Minutes later, though, a passing police patrol spotted three youths on the scooter. He attempted to stop them because they were not wearing crash helmets and the scooter looked unsafe.

The youths abandoned the scooter and tried to run away but were arrested. The officer then discovered the pensioner's handbag.

The teenagers were released on police bail after questioning and will appear before Bolton magistrates on October 2.
