SIR: I refer to K Shippobottom's letter (April 5) regarding Lord Leverhulme's plans for the town centre. These plans, drawn and paid for by Lord Leverhulme, were just one of the many generous contributions which he made to the town for the benefit of the people of Bolton.
It is the opinion of the Bolton and District Civic Trust that a Town Centre Memorial to Lord Leverhulme is long overdue. We have therefore made a proposal to the Council that such a memorial be erected and have already been busy in that direction.
The manager of Montcliffe Quarry in Horwich has very kindly offered the stone and arrangements can be made for a portrait plaque and lettering. All we need is Council approval and, of course, the money!
Perhaps this would be a good project for the Millennium Fund. What do your readers think?
Ann Warr, Hon Secretary, Bolton and District Civic Trust, 7, Sunadale Close, The Hawthorns, Deane, Bolton.
