A FORMER Bolton soccer hero is one of the alleged victims of a hospital nurse accused of attempted murder and ill treatment, the BEN can reveal today. George Hunt, a Bolton Wanderers football hero in the 1930s, who also represented England, is alleged to have been ill-treated by the auxiliary nurse on a ward at Bolton General Hospital.

The nurse Shaun Philip Darrock, aged 21, of Gilnow Gardens, Bolton, was making a second appearance before Bolton magistrates today charged with the attempted murder of paralysed patient William Winnard on January 28 and the ill-treatment of the former football hero, now aged 86, on February 5. Mr Hunt, who suffers from the mind crippling Alzheimer's disease, has been a patient at Bolton General Hospital for at least two years.

He joined the Wanderers after leaving Arsenal in 1938. He had previously had a long spell with Tottenham Hotspur and was capped by England.

In 1946 he joined Sheffield Wednesday but returned to Bolton two years later as assistant trainer. He took over as second team trainer in June, 1967.

Less than two years ago he was given a special VIP day out at Burnden Park courtesy of a former team mate, Nat Lofthouse.
