BURY will be without striker Phil Stant and midfielder Lenny Johnrose for Saturday's derby clash at Preston.

The two key men are ruled out through suspension with manager Stan Ternent faced with his first major team reshuffle for weeks.

Thirteen-goal top scorer Stant begins a two-match ban while Johnrose has failed in an appeal to overturn his controversial sending off at Chester 12 days ago and will serve a one-match ban.

David Johnson is favourite to resume up front after being left out against Northampton last Saturday to make way for £100,000 striker Rob Matthews to make his full debut.

But the quicksilver 19-year-old will face a strong challenge from veteran hit man Mark Carter who scored in the Reserves' 2-0 victory over Walsall last night.

Ternent was keeping his cards close to his chest today, only saying: "Johnson naturally comes back into the frame as does Carter who is a proven goalscorer and the only reason he hasn't been in the side is that we have Stant, Johnson and Matthews and there is a lot of competition for places up front." Johnrose's absence could pave the way for Shaun Reid to return in the centre of midfield in a new look partnership alongside Nick Daws.
