ATHERTON LR 1 RADCLIFFE BORO 1 THE big Unibond Division One Derby never quite ignited into the magical encounter that many had predicted.

The spoils were shared to extend Atherton's unbeaten run to four games and Radcliffe's to five.

LR took the lead on 47 minutes when a breathtaking 40-yard pass from Andy Feeley set Lee Cryer free. He got to the by line and pulled the ball back for Gavin McDonald to tap in.

Boro's equaliser came when Joe Connor cut inside and was brought down by Joey Dunn. Ian Lunt fired home the penalty.

Lunt was again involved five minutes later when he and LR keeper Andy Hills both gave their all in a 50-50 challenge. The danger was cleared for Atherton but the brave Hills was rushed to hospital with a bad facial injury.

Midfielder Kenny Quigg took over in goal and denied Radcliffe any further goals. GLASSHOUGHTON 0 ATH COLLS 2 ATHERTON Colls had a joyful trip back over the Pennines after a tremendous win in the FA Vase first qualifying round.

Manager Steve Walton was full of praise for his team's performance enthusing: "We totally dominated. Some of our football was superb at times and we outplayed them on their own turf."

The first goal came on 20 minutes when John Dobson finished well in a one-on-one with the keeper and the second on 69 minutes when Chris O'Brien produced an inch perfect cross for Gary Henshaw to score his first goal for the club since his move from Hyde United. CASTLETON 5 DAISY HILL 0 'WE were awful,' said Daisy Hill Manager Jimmy Hulton after his side's thrashing.

"But for new signing Gary Crosby at the back it could have been a cricket score. It's disheartening but you have to keep going."
