AN APPEAL to raise £250,000 has been launched to save Tyldesley Parish Church.

The money is needed for repairs and improvements to the building, which was consecrated in 1825.

Architects have drawn up a list of the work required at St George's church.

It includes re-roofing, renewal of all guttering and drain pipes, the repair and rebuilding of parapets and pinnacles, resetting window arches, the repair of leaded glass windows and the possible replacement of roof timbers.

There are also plans to improve disabled access to the church and install new toilets.

Church warden Kevin Bracegirdle said: "Our church is attended by more than 1,000 people a month and its future is our primary consideration in launching this appeal.

"To complete the repairs is not just important, but vital to the survival of the church and the valuable service it provides to the community."

l Anyone who would like to help the appeal should contact Mr Bracegirdle on 07729-127453.
