A STUDENT walked into his college armed with a baseball bat before launching unprovoked attacks against three teachers and a 16-yearold girl, a court heard.

Waqar Ali, aged 18, caused “havoc” when he marched into Bolton Sixth Form College in Farnworth and began hurling abuse at teachers during lessons.

Bolton Crown Court, sitting in Bury, heard that Ali, then a business student, went into the college to look for a friend.

He walked unannounced into room S27 and asked teacher Claire Jones where to find room S29.

When she asked him to leave, he replied: “You don’t give me orders. I give you orders”, and invited her to perform a sex act on him. Ali, of Eustace Street, Great Lever, then grabbed the teacher’s arm and slapped her across the head.

He then walked into room S29, where David Slamin was teaching, picked up a folder from a student’s desk and pushed Mr Slamin out of the way as he left the classroom.

Ali’s next stop was room S07, where Ruksana Ahmed was teaching. After making obscene comments he struck her twice.

Ali then went to the learning resource centre and knocked a 16-year-old girl’s computer off the table and slapped her across the face.

College security arrived and escorted Ali off the premises, when he produced a small baseball bat, waved it and hurled abuse at a guard. The police were called and Ali handed himself in at a police station four days later.

Ali told police that he had been drinking since 11am in Farnworth Park on the day of the assaults, September 25 last year, drowning his sorrows after the death of his cousin.

He said he could remember very little of the incident, but accepted that he was responsible and said he was ashamed and sorry for what he had done.

Judge Guy Mathieson said: “You indulged yourself in a quite dreadful piece of drunken yobbery.”

Ali pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and four counts of assault. He was ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work and must pay £100 compensation to each of his four victims.

Ali has been permanently excluded from Bolton Sixth Form, and now works in a supermarket.
