A MOTORCYCLIST was fighting for his life last night after he came off the road and crashed into a lamp post.

Emergency services were called to Grecian Crescent, Great Lever, at 12.25am on Tuesday following the accident.

It is believed that Shaun Sleigh, aged 21, from Farnworth, lost control of his Yamaha YBR125 bike close to metal railings near the bus stop at the junction with Ninehouse Lane.

He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. A police spokesman last night described his condition as “life-threatening”.

Local residents said the place where the crash happened was on a bend and was a blackspot for accidents.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “There are always accidents around here. It was only a matter of time before something serious happened.”

Meanwhile, the 20-yearold driver of a Peugeot 306 which crashed into a row of shops and houses in Little Hulton on Saturday remains in a critical condition.

Police were called to Manchester Road East at about 3.30am after the car flipped over several times before hitting three businesses, two houses and two parked Ford Mondeos.

Firefighters had to free the driver — the only occupant — from the car.

He was due to be transferred to the Royal Salford Hospital last night after being treated in Bolton for injuries including skull fractures, a broken spine and fractured ribs.

And on Sunday, a 16- year-old boy from Wigan suffered spinal injuries when he was hit by a BMW in Wigan Road, Hart Common, Westhoughton.

He remains in a serious condition.

Inquiries are continuing into all three incidents.

Police are appealing to anyone with any information to call them on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
