AN accountant who stole more than £32,000 from the car showroom where she worked has been jailed for a year.

Dawn Ellison, aged 48, of Bury Road, Radcliffe, was a senior accounts supervisor at the RRG dealership in Bolton Street, Bury.

Bolton Crown Court heard that she was responsible for banking the day’s takings, but she instead pocketed thousands of pounds.

She was jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to 10 counts of theft.

The theft was discovered after her boss noticed some money was missing and ordered an internal investigation.

The evidence pointed to her, and she admitted stealing two loads of cash in a meeting with managers.

Another audit was carried out, and the company found evidence of another 32 transactions in which cash had gone missing, dating back to 2003.

Det Con Mick Yates, of Bury CID, said: “Ellison breached the trust of her employers and her colleagues.

“The company was left out of pocket because of her dishonesty to such an extent that many RRG workers did not receive their annual bonuses.

“I hope that the sentence of the court sends out a clear message to other workers who are trusted to deal with money that this type of crime will not be tolerated, and that we will catch up with you.”
