MEMBERS of a trampoline club will be ‘bouncing around the clock’ at a marathon fundraising event.
Withins Trampoline Club needs two new trampolines — and its ‘bouncers’ have come up with a novel way to raise cash £10,000 to buy them.
A squad of 40 trampoliners will take part in a 24-hour bounce at Withins Community Centre, in Newby Road, Breightmet.
They will be hitting the canvas at noon tomorrow and continuing through the night until noon the next day.
Coach, Lynda Grady, said: “We started the group 20 years ago and it is thriving, but our beds are getting old.
“The new beds will give us that little bit extra as our bouncers compete with others across the region.
“We hope the sponsored bounce will get our fundraising efforts going.”
Throughout the challenge, at least one of the trampolines will be occupied at any one time.
And even though those taking part include competitive trampolinists like North West under-16s champion Alex Openshaw, the task will be anything but easy.
Mrs Grady, of Bury, added: “It might not look like it, but trampolining really tires you out. Bouncing for an hour nonstop requires a lot of discipline and stamina.
“Quite a few of the younger ones have volunteered for the tricky 3am slot. They are excited about having a sleepover at the centre.”
The club has members aged five to 30 who train five times a week and they come from all over the area.
Alyshia McAvinue, aged 18, of Prestwich, said: “Everyone is excited because it is something different.
“The club is great fun and we need the new equipment, so we need lots of sponsorship money.”
In August, the club will also change its name to Bolton Trampoline Club.
