COMMUNITY groups who joined forces for a fun day want to make the event an annual attraction.
Members of 12 different organisations worked together to hold the event on Saturday at Dome Park in Milnthorpe Road, Breightmet.
They were brought together by Bolton Community Network and included Deepdale and Leverhulme residents’ associations, Red Lane Church, Breightmet Wanderers and the YMCA.
Each group provided at least one attraction, including stalls, tombolas, a bouncy castle and craft activities.
There were also performances by AJ’s morris dancers, a workshop by a Bollywood dancer and an appearance by the police panda mascot, Constable Cub. Hundreds of people attended the fun day and took part in the activities, most of which were free of charge.
It proved to be so popular that organisers are considering making it an annual event.
Karen Hon, acting chairman and treasurer of Leverhulme Residents’ Association, said: “Because of the recession, we thought it would be good to get together and hold one big fun day. We wanted to put something back into the community and raise awareness of what is happening in the area.
“A lot of children came along and they loved the event. They got really involved and had a lot of fun. Considering it was our first attempt, it went very well.”
