BOLTON MP Julie Hilling has urged ministers to press for enforcement of a ban on animal-tested cosmetics.
The proposed ban prohibiting testing on animals of cosmetics ingredients within EU countries was to be brought in by 2013 but European Commissioners are considering a delay.
Several constituents have written to the Bolton West MP asking her to ensure that British ministers take a strong line and press for enforcement by 2013.
Ms Hilling has contacted Caroline Spelman, Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, to ask whether her department will push for the ban throughout Europe. She has also asked North West MEP Arlene McCarthy if she can take action inside the European Parliament.
Ms Hilling said: “This is an issue that constituents have told me they feel very strongly about. They argue that there is no need for animal-tested cosmetics in the 21st century and that they feel that this ban should be enforced by 2013.”
