A MAN left scarred for life in a street attack by a gang of thugs says he is “sickened” by the thought that no one will face charges for slashing his face.

It is a year since Reece Johnson was attacked in the street by a gang of thugs, while his terrified son watched on in horror.

He was left scarred for life after one of the 20-strong group slashed his face with a razor blade.

No one has ever been arrested or charged in connection with the attack.

Mr Johnson, aged 24, said: “I have got over the attack but it is the thought of them getting away with it — it sickens me.”

The young dad had been to Blackpool for the day with friends and was taking his five-year-old son Tyrel back to their Great Lever home when the incident happened, near the Lever Street entrance to Bobby Heywood Park.

Medical staff told Mr Johnson that if the blade had continued another few millimetres it would have cut his jugular vein and he could have died.

Since the attack, Mr Johnson has not returned to his house in Great Lever and has moved to another location in the town.

He has struggled to find a job and believes it may be down to his scar.

He added: “I went for an interview last week but no one called me back.

“I don’t know if it is because of the scar but I see people looking at me and they think I am a violent person because of it.

“Someone knows who did this to me. Someone who was there that night needs to do the right thing and come forward and tell police.”

Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe, of Bolton CID, said: “We interviewed two suspects about this nasty assault last year, however they were eliminated from the investigation and this Crime remains unsolved.

“Despite several appeals asking for witnesses to come forward we have yet to be given that vital piece of information that could help us put the offenders behind bars.

“It is now a year on and allegiances may have changed.

“As a result, people may now have a different motivation for calling the police.

“We still believe there were a number of people in the park that night who may have seen something but have not come forward to speak to us.”
