Peter Kay has revealed he has been approached to write a film version of his sit-com Phoenix Nights.

Listener on Real Radio's Ditchy & Salty show asked the comedian when a new television series was due.

He said it has been written but added that he had also been asked to make a movie.

“They’ve even asked me, with this ‘Inbetweeners’ film, if you want to make a film of it,” he said.

Salty asked for clarification wondering if he was talking about Max and Paddy or Phoenix Nights.

Kay replied: “Phoenix Nights, they want to do a film of it, they’ve said this ‘Inbetweeners’ one has done well. The biggest problem was “getting everyone together” he added.

In response to Salty saying that bringing any successful series back put massive pressure on the writer to be extra funny, Kay answered: “Yeah, but this is funny! The fact that we’ve got Brian Potter in a wheelchair, and he’s in a garage and a truck pulls up and he accidently gets caught in the grill and he goes about 400 miles on the front of a truck up the motorway!”.

He also said he had two ‘Max and Paddy’ Christmas specials written which could be made into a film.

He said: “The funniest thing is we wrote two ‘Max and Paddy, me and Paddy [Patrick McGuinness] wrote two Christmas Specials that could be full length films but then we just started doing other things."
