COSTA Coffee is set to open a new shop at Bolton Retail Park — its fifth branch in the town.

Bolton Council’s planning committee approved plans to erect a coffee shop on a grassed area next to Decathlon, off Trinity Street.

The shop can open between 7am and 11pm and there will be seating areas to the front and rear of the building. A resident from neighbouring Hargreaves House objected to the scheme, raising concerns about the noise and opening hours.

But the committee was told the cafe would be 40 yards away, across a busy main road and would not affect residents.

It is thought that most of the customers would be people already visiting the retail park, along with students walking past.

Cllr Chris Peacock suggested bins should be put near the shop for customers using its takeaway service.

Costa Coffee already has three shops in the town centre — in Victoria Square, the Market Place and at Waterstone’s in Deansgate — as well as a cafe at Middlebrook Retail Park.
