POLICE are warning people to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries.
Three homes in Little Hulton and Walkden have ben burgled in the past week.
Two people have been arrested after a break-in at Wallbrook Crescent, Little Hulton, which happened at 12.20pm on Thursday.
Police said two men removed a glass panel from the door to unlock it and get inside while the householders were out. The burglars stole jewellery, a television, a computer and cash.
On the same afternoon, the back window of a house was smashed in Croftside Close, Walkden, and raiders escaped with a laptop.
The burglary happened sometime between 2pm and 7pm, when the homeowner returned.
On Tuesday there was an attempted burglary in Bank Lane, Little Hulton, but the offenders failed to get into the home and left empty handed.
A police spokesman said: “We want to remind residents to be vigilant and make sure they have got their alarms set.”
Police say the top three deterrents to burglars are alarms, locks and lights.
Residents are advised to fit an alarm that protects all external doors and downstairs rooms and to be sure to set it when leaving their home empty or when they go to bed at night.
Mortise locks on external doors and window locks help to keep burglars out but only if doors and windows are kept shut and locked even when you are in.
Police say about one in three burglaries are down to thieves entering through unlocked doors and windows and just walking out with valuables.
External security lighting will also help keep burglars at bay.
Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
