A COUPLE who lost their baby girl to a devastating heart condition are celebrating the birth of their new baby.

Lagan Katherine Anne Grant was born in January 11 last year, but died on April 26 from a congenital heart defect (CHD).

On Tuesday, her parents, Barry Grant and Carren Bell, welcomed the arrival of her baby brother, Lochlyn.

The couple also have an eight-year-old daughter, Ceridwen Grant.

Following Lagan’s death, the family established Lagan’s Foundation.

And the charity’s work is already making a difference to families of children born with CHD. Miss Bell said: “I can’t put into words what that means to me.

“It shows that all the hard work I put in every day means I am doing the right thing.

“The charity is spreading much wider than the North West and we need more volunteers.

“They can be retired or working people or those have a couple of hours to spare. Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool will provide the training.”

On April 14, Lagan’s family, friends, supporters and members of he public will be walking from Alder Hey Hospital, where Lagan was treated, to the Reebok Stadium.

Miss Bell, aged 32, said: “The walk is about raising awareness of the work of Lagan’s Foundation to a wider community.

“We want as many people to join us on the walk, which will also raise money for the charity, which will go to helping families.”

Lagan’s Foundation recruits a bank of volunteers who go into families’ homes to help them with a baby who has the heart defect.

They can also provide advice and information and ensure families have what they are entitled to.

To date, about £12,000 has been raised for the charity.

Volunteers and those wishing to take part in the walk should log on to lagans.org.uk
