A FORMER Turton High School pupil at the helm of Europe’s biggest car care products manufacturer has been named in the latest Sunday Times Rich List.

Peter Schofield and his family have been ranked equal 718th in the list with his wealth valued at £105 million.

The list, which was published on Sunday, profiles the 1,000 richest people and families in the UK.

Mr Schofield, the chairman of Tetrosyl, praised his father and the firm’s founder, Clifford, as “the best mentor anyone could have had”.

Tetrosyl, launched in 1954, has two sites in Bury and a large distribution facility in Chadderton.

Annually, the group manufactures more than 2,500 products and in excess of 61 million units.

Last year, the firm scooped the Business of the Year in the Bolton and Bury Business Awards, which are organised by The Bolton News.

Mr Schofield said his father, having started Tetrosyl from nothing and with very limited money, had created a very successful business.

He said: “The best quote I have heard for some time is ‘talent is universal — opportunities are not’.

“When I left Turton High School at the age of 16 and started working for my father at Tetrosyl, that was my opportunity. At that point, the real work started.

“My career through Tetrosyl in the early days took me into the sales force, marketing, production — in fact, most aspects within the company.

The learning curve was intense, fast-paced but exciting.”

The company now supplies 76 countries, has an annual turnover of more than £160 million and profits in excess of £13 million per year.

Elsewhere in the rich list, Bolton’s Warburton family is ranked equal 164th nationally with its wealth totalling £500 million, the same figure as in 2011.

On a regional basis, Warburton’s occupies 12th spot in the North West list, down two places compared to last year.

In equal 291st position nationally and ranked 18th in the North West with wealth put at £270 million, is Geoffrey Halstead and family of Radcliffe- based commercial flooring manufacturer and distributor James Halstead plc.

Mr Halstead is chairman.
