THE annual Bromley Cross Summer Fayre will be held tomorrow and is expected to raise more than £30,000 for local good causes.

The free event, which will be held from 11am to 4pm at the Last Drop Village, will feature children’s rides, marching bands, a dog agility display and dozens of stalls.

It is the second fair to be held, following its revival last year, when more than 5,000 people attended and £18,000 was raised for charity.

The fair is funded by the local area forum and Bolton at Home, with the venue donated free of charge by the Last Drop.

It is organised by the newly- formed Friends of Bromley Cross group.

The three local councillors — Alan Wilkinson, David Greenhalgh and Norman Critchley — helped to revive the event last year, following calls for a community event at the Bromley Cross area forum.

It is being billed as the “biggest community fayre in Bolton”.

Cllr Greenhalgh said: “We’ve been working really hard on this year’s event, which is going to be bigger and better than ever.

“All five local primary schools are taking part, as well as performances from Turton High School.

“There will be brass bands, majorettes, a pipe band, Morris dancers and a steel band, as well as falconry and dog agility displays, a mobile farm and donkey rides.

“We’ve also got traditional crafts being demonstrated, as well as 60 stalls from our local groups and charities, who will be fund-raising and promoting the fantastic work they do in our community.”

Accrington Brass Band will kick off the event in style at 11am, with a march through Last Drop Village, and Eagley Brass Band will also perform on the day.
