A SCHOOLGIRL’S dog biscuits are proving so popular she is launching her own website.

Eight-year-old vegetarian Scarlett Berry began baking animal treats with her mother and grandmother in November after getting some inspiration from a Farnworth vet.

After donating the £1,140 proceeds to animal charities, the budding vet, from Heaton , is hoping to help good causes even more.

Scarlett is taking to the internet so that she can take more orders on her mission to becoming a vet.

The Clevelands Preparatory School pupil said: “I really want to become a vet, and Mike Nolan, from Darley House Surgery, in Farnworth, told me to get into vet school you have to show how dedicated you are to animal care.

“Mum had bought me a dog biscuit cookery book to make some treats for my own two rescue dogs, so I thought it would be a good idea to make lots and sell them for rescue charities.” To date, Scarlett’s Barking Berry’s Bakery treats has raised money for Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, the Dogs Trust Merseyside, Animals In Need Liverpool, Lurcher Link and Rochdale Dog Rescue.

She has expanded her range to include doggy cup cakes and birthday cakes.

In January, Scarlett won a national junior canine carer award from the Dogs Trust in recognition of her efforts.

Her prize included a day working at the Merseyside centre and spending time with the visiting vet.

Dedicated to the cause and loving every minute of her fundraising efforts, Scarlett shows no sign of slowing down.

She said: “The next Bleakholt open day is on my birthday in September.

“Mum thought I would want to give it a miss but I can’t think of a nicer way to spend the day.”
