The Bolton News moved to a new home this morning, after 25 years in Churchgate.
The newspaper offices are just yards from Victoria Square in The Wellsprings building, next to the Octagon, the museum and the Town Hall.
The editorial, commercial and newspaper sales departments are based in the whole of the ground floor, which formerly housed Barclays bank and Connexions.
Ian Savage, Editor in Chief of The Bolton News, said: “It is very exciting to have moved to new offices and staying in the heart of Bolton’s town centre.”
As well as The Bolton News, other titles produced by journalists in the Bolton offices include the Bury Times , Radcliffe Times, Prestwich and Whitefield Guide, and the free Bolton and Bury Journals.
The Bolton News (then the Bolton Evening News) was first published on Tuesday, March 19, 1867. It was Britain’s first community evening halfpenny newspaper and has had 12 editors in its 145-year history including Mr Savage.
Before the Bolton Evening News, as it then was, moved to Churchgate, it had been based in offices — including a printing press — in Mealhouse Lane in Bolton town centre, since it was launched.
That building now forms part of Crompton Place shopping centre and the Boots store.
