TRAVELLERS who caused havoc for Bolton businesses as they set up camp have moved on.

Police became involved after the group set up camp at Riverside industrial estate, just a few hundred yards down the road from their previous site in Waters Meeting Road, Astley Bridge .

They have now parked up further down Waters Meeting Road and are continuing to leave mess for landowners and Bolton Council to clean up.

The 20 caravans and 25 cars moved from Riverside Industrial Estate to Total Fitness.

They arrived at Riverside on Thursday night and moved away on Sunday after police served them with a notice.

Before that they had been at Endeavour House for several days.

A nearby business owner said: “The site has been strewn with rubbish, so there is a bit of a clean-up job to do.”

Insp Wayne Readfern, from Bolton East neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are working with the landowners and the council.

“We are monitoring the travellers’ movements closely, taking their lifestyle into consideration and trying to prevent crime and disorder.”
