NURSING home residents will be taking part in a walk to promote healthier lifestyles.

Staff and residents at the Mill View Residential and Nursing Home in Bridgeman Street, Great Lever, are appealing to the local community to put their best foot forward and take part in a new scheme aimed at encouraging people to incorporate more walking into their daily lives.

They will be doing a short “memory walk”, which aims to highlight the health benefits of doing just 15 minutes extra walking per day as well as raise money for people suffering from dementia.

More than 50,000 people across the country are expected to take part in the event, which is being organised by Bupa and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Mill View staff and residents will be taking part in the walk from 2pm on Wednesday, September 19, along with members of the community.

Home manager, Sandra Collins, said: “We can all do our bit to promote healthy living, whether that’s building a couple more steps into everyday routines or making sure you walk further than you usually do. It’s all about doing that extra bit each day.”
