THE family of a man who fell from the roof of a building after he fled the scene of a car crash are praying he pulls through.

Zahid Khan is described as being in a “very poorly” condition after he fell 20 feet and suffered serious head injuries.

The 21-year-old lives in Bradford Street, Bolton, about 400 yards from where he fell on Monday.

His worried family say they have no idea why he would run away from the scene of the car smash.

The accident caused chaos for drivers in Monday’s rush hour traffic.

Mr Khan’s brother, Saeed Khan, aged 30, said: “We are just praying he will pull through. If he does survive we don’t know if he will have any lasting damage.

“He has a blood clot on his head and swelling on the brain.

“It is touch and go.

“We cannot understand why he did not stop and don’t know what he was doing.”

Mr Khan was in a maroon Volkswagen Golf with a 17-year-old boy, which collided with a green Toyota Avensis taxi.

The crash happened just 50 yards from the flats Mr Khan fell from.

The taxi driver and his three female passengers were left with minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Police arrested the 17-year-old from the Golf a few yards away.

A GMP spokesman said a car, believed to be the Golf, fled a police patrol car and was then involved in the crash.

The spokesman added: “An officer was on Bradford Street on an unconnected matter and was at the scene almost immediately.

“The officer detained one of the occupants at the scene and witnessed another climbing over a wall. Other officers were then called to assist.”

The Independent Police Complaints Commission was informed but following an assessment will not be carrying out an investigation.

GMP’s Professional Standards Branch has launched an investigation into the incident. A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an incident and has been bailed until November 12.
