A Bolton man who a sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl has today been sentenced.
Adam Cartwright, aged 29, of Priory Place, Bolton, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to sexual assault.
He was today sentenced to Bolton Crown Court to 18 months imprisonment.
In the early hours of Saturday February 25, the 14-year-old victim went to bed at a house in Radcliffe.
She was awoken at about 3.15am by a man, now known to be Cartwright, who was lying next to her and sexually assaulting her.
Cartwright then realised that the victim was not the woman he had intended to visit at the flat and he had mistakenly get into bed with her.
However, he then continued to sexually assault her before leaving the room.
The victim’s cousin, who he had originally intended to visit, then confronted him and asked him to leave.
Detective Constable Mick Yates, of Bury CID, said: “The fact that Cartwright continued to abuse the victim even after he had mistaken her for someone else compounds what was already a nasty incident.
“He took advantage of the situation for his own gratification. I hope today’s sentence provides some comfort to the victim.”
