A MAN has been jailed for sexually assaulting a teenage girl he “mistakenly” got into bed with.
Adam Cartwright, aged 29, was jailed for 18 months yesterday by Judge Peter Davies at Bolton Crown Court.
The attack happened in the early hours of Saturday, February 25, when Cartwright, of Priory Place, Tonge Moor, got into the 14-year-old’s bed at a house in Radcliffe.
The girl was woken at 3.15am by a man, now known to be Cartwright, who was lying next to her and sexually assaulting her. Cartwright realised the girl was not the woman he intended to visit at the flat and had got into bed with her mistakenly. But he continued to abuse her before leaving the room.
The woman, who he had intended to visit, confronted Cartwright and asked him to leave.
Det Con Mick Yates, of Bury CID, said: “The fact Cartwright continued to abuse the victim even after he had mistaken her for someone else compounds what was already a nasty incident.
“He took advantage of the situation for his own gratification.
“I hope the sentence provides some comfort to the victim.”
