ENTRIES for next year’s Ironman event have sold out — within days of being released.
Pre-registered athletes snapped up the 1,850 tickets for Ironman UK’s 10th event within two days of lines opening. Sales for the event, which will be returning to Bolton on Sunday, July 20 sold out on Sunday afternoon after going on sale on Friday.
Anyone unsuccessful in securing a place can still get a place through the event’s chosen charities, Scope, Macmillan or Nirvana.
Athletes completed the gruelling course in Bolton on Sunday, August 4. It involved a 2.4-mile swim at Pennington Flash, a 112-mile bike ride through Rivington, Chorley and Adlington, and a 26.2-mile run to Bolton town centre. Thousands of spectators turned out to cheer on the entrants along the 140 course.
About 3,000 athletes were registered on the pre-registration list to access places before they were due to be offered to the public.
The return of Ironman UK next year will be the sixth time the triathlon has been hosted by the town. It was previously held in Sherborne, Dorset.
Last year’s race saw Bolton’s economy benefit to the tune of an estimated £2.7 million.
