2:51pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in Bolton
A BULLET has been recovered following a shoot-out in Atherton.
Police were called to Coronation Avenue at about 10.20pm on Wednesday (August 28) following reports of shots being fired.
At 10.30am today (Thursday) police received a report that a car on Coronation Avenue had a bullet in the door of the Fiat Punto.
A section of nearby Spa Road is closed to traffic while police carry out forensic inquiries.
Police say no one was injured in the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington said: "We are at the early stages of this investigation, and it would therefore be too early to speculate as to what may have happened.
"However, I do want to say that we are determined to establish the full facts and get to the bottom of what happened and are working tirelessly to do this.
"Somebody going about their business could have killed or seriously injured as a result of this incident, so we to find the person responsible for the shooting.
"We would ask that anyone with any information that may assist this enquiry, including witnesses who may have seen suspicious behaviour last night, to get in touch.
"We understand that the community will be concerned, particularly as incidents of this nature are so rare. As such, patrols are being stepped up in the area and officers are on hand to address any concerns people may have."
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7225 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
