Tea party raises £2,000 for Bolton Hospice
HAVING a good old cuppa has raised £2,000 for Bolton Hospice.
And, with some final parties set to be held as part of the hospice’s first Tea Party Appeal, it is hoped the total could increase further.
The appeal was launched in June and officially drew to a close over the weekend — with Bolton residents and businesses hosting gatherings throughout the summer.
The hospice set the project up to find a fun way for people to help generate funds that will go towards the £2.5 million needed by the hospice in order to continue to provide expert end of life care to people in Bolton with cancer and non-cancer illnesses.
Leading the way with the highest banking tea party was Wendy Hodgson, aged 55, who lives in Chorley and was brought up in Heaton.
She put up a large marquee in her garden and invited passers-by to pop in and purchase some tasty tea and beautifully baked goods — raising £400 in the process.
She said: “I volunteer at the hospice, which is something I was inspired to do ever since my father was cared for there.
“We thought it would be a good idea to put a marquee up because there is a public footpath that runs by our garden so we were able to invite those people in.
“We offered tea and coffee as well as many different types of tea and I was delighted to see that we had raised a good amount — I’m already planning an even bigger party next year.”
Stephanie Lacaille, hospice community fundraiser, thanked Wendy and everyone else who hosted a party over the summer.
She said: “We would like to thank the people of Bolton for supporting our first Tea Party Appeal and hope they enjoyed plenty of tea and sweet treats.”
And the baking bonanza is set to continue as the hospice gets ready to launch its next project — the Bake-a-thon, which will invite people to hold bake sales and baking contests from Tuesday, October 1.
There are also plans for a Best Baking Business competition to see which Bolton business has the best baking skills.
