Day at Haydock races to support Bolton Lads and Girls Club
6:00am Saturday 14th September 2013 in Bolton
GLAMOROUS girls and suited and booted boys flocked to Haydock Races to raise funds for Bolton Lads and Girls Club.
More than 100 people supported the event, held in association with betting giant BetFred.
Companies showed their community spirit and several of the races were sponsored by club supporters, including IT Medics, Bolton Atlantic Challenge, Fibrlec with University Of Bolton and Bolton Central BNI group.
Donna Fisk, BLGC fundraising manager, said: “In the current economic climate, our corporate fundraising events are vital in helping to achieve the £6,000 daily cost of keeping our doors open for the club’s core offer — a seven-night-a-week youth club.
“Since its founding, the club has worked closely with local businesses for the benefit of the young people of Bolton.
“And thanks to their support in sponsorship and attending the event, the club raised over £5,500 which is going towards The Atlantic Challenge target of £250,000 for our Junior Mentoring Programme.”
On the day, guests had the chance to win prizes in the raffle, which included the star prize of a week’s holiday to Portugal, a weekend trip to the Lake District, teeth whitening course court-esy of 530 Dental Care and a Slater Menswear voucher.
The Atlantic Challenge will begin in November this year when four local businessmen set off to row The Atlantic Ocean over a minimum of seven weeks in a 3,000-mile race. The team of four men started fundraising in 2011, with Haydock Races being just one of the many events the team have organised to support their cause.
