STAFF at Bolton-based law firm Keoghs have raised £1,000 for Lupus UK by dressing up as characters from the hit movie Despicable Me.
More than 30 “minions” held raffles and collections at the firm’s Reebok and Parklands offices last month, to raise funds for the charity that helps sufferers of the chronic and currently incurable illness.
Amy Hoole, a deputy team leader in Keoghs’ legal support team, wanted to raise awareness of Lupus after her grandmother and then her mother were diagnosed with the illness.
She said: “Lupus UK is a charity that is very close to my heart.
“My grandmother has suffered from Lupus for over 30 years, and has been hospitalised several times because of it.
“Then 11 years ago my mother started to get very ill, and was also eventually diagnosed with Lupus. Fortunately, both are able to keep the illness under control now, but they will have to take medication for the rest of their lives.”
