GUESTS enjoyed perfect triangular sandwiches and cake as the ladies of Bolton joined the mayor for afternoon tea.

The sell-out event was raising money for Bolton Hospice, Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Fortalice and The Sensory Centre, the mayor’s charities.

As well as getting to meet Bolton’s first citizen, Cllr Colin Shaw, and his wife, the Mayoress Dee Shaw, guests tucked into a delicious afternoon tea.

They were entertained by a range of young singers from across the borough, including 15-year-old Riya Kalhan, 14-year-old Matt-hew Kay and Lucy Thomas, aged just nine.

Pre-drinks were held in the reception room at Bolton Town Hall, followed by a traditional afternoon tea in the banqueting suite.

Mayor Cllr Colin Shaw said: “It’s nice to get people — we feel absolutely over the moon with the support we’ve received.

“There are so many people willing to support charities, even after the recession we’ve just had, which tells you everything about how kind-hearted people are.”

Tickets were £15, with all proceeds going to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal.

Mayoress Dee Shaw added: “This has been very popular. This is the first event and we hope to do a similar event next year.”
