WORK on the Bolton Interchange is pressing ahead, with the first signs of the new structure appearing on site.
Builders have been busy constructing the first part of the new £48 million project, which will replace the current station in Moor Lane.
When complete, there will be more than 20 bus stands and 210 vehicle departures an hour across Bolton, Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
Recent preparatory work has included building a new electricity sub-station, diverting existing electricity cables and putting down access routes for construction vehicles.
The depot will be linked to the train station along Newport Street via a pedestrian footbridge called the SkyLink.
Plans for the new Interchange include a retail outlet, a cycle hub and modern public toilets with a baby change facility.
The new build will also use innovative sustainable energy initiatives, including rainwater recycling to flush the toilets, solar panels and low-energy LED lighting.
The Interchange is due to open in spring 2015.
