A FUN day held in honour of a Bolton man who plunged to his death down a lift shaft has raised more than £2,000 for a trust fund set up for his niece and nephew.

Between 600 and 800 people attended a celebration fundraiser at The Brooklyn pub in Great Lever on Sunday.

The crowds had gathered in the name of 27-year-old plasterer Craig Jones, who died on August 30 at Marsden House in Bolton town centre.

Daniel Berry, aged 27, organised the day alongside other friends of Mr Jones – nicknamed Pugzley.

Among attractions on offer were journeys in a Lamborghini and Ferrari, fairground rides, raffles, a tattoo artist and a visit from special guest - champion boxer Carl Thompson

Mr Berry said: "It was absolutely brilliant - a fantastic day.

"All of Pugzley's mates were there, and his family, and his little niece and nephew even managed to get along.

"It could not have been a better day for him – the whole of Bolton came down for him."

The cash raised, and future monies generated from fundraisers, will be available to Mr Jones' niece Hannah, aged one, and nephew Tyler, aged four, when they turn 18.

Mr Berry added: "It was not just down to me, it was a team of his mates that set this up.

"And we had so many people come down who we had never met – they made this possible as well.

"Pugzley was one of those guys, he did not really like attention.

"He will have been up there saying 'why are they doing this?'.

"He would be absolutely over-the-moon though. I don't think he realised how much people cared about him."

Proposals have already been put in place to make Pugzley's Family Fun Day an annual event, with a second event planned next year.
