BOLTON Market is stay ing open into the evening — for more "twilight events" — as traders look to capitalise on the £4.5 million revamp of the lifestyle hall as well as shoppers' appetite for food and drink.

The first night will be held tomorrow and will see a Halloween-themed all you can eat barbecue at Cameroonian curry stall Nkono with craft beers available from the Great Ale Year Round bar.

Alain Job, of Nkono, is pioneering the evening event with a view to organising more in the future

He has teamed up with Steve Simms, who runs Great Ale Year Round, and who will offer a free drink as part of the £10 all you can eat offer.

Mr Job said: “This is just the kick off for us. We want to see if coming to the market for some food and drink and a nice, relaxing time is something that the people would want.

“If we had more events in the evening it could benefit everyone, from traders to the offices workers who want somewhere to go.”

He said there has been a good deal of interest in Friday’s event but wanted to issue a challenge to anyone who is yet to pick up a ticket.

He added: “I want to see who can be the last person standing after the all you can eat challenge.”

Mr Simms, a former Rugby League boss, took over the Great Ale Year Round outlet with his wife Anne after its launch in January by Dan and Gina Buck.

He said: “There is a great atmosphere in this venue and people can enjoy fantastic food and a nice pint, so we hope a lot of people will come down. We want to encourage people to stay in the town centre after work on a Friday evening and this would be the perfect place to come to before heading home or going out.”

The Nkono curry stall and the Great Ale Year Round bar have been two of the big success stories of the revamped market.

Mr Job has become a familiar face in Bolton town centre and is known as much for his larger than life personality as his goat curry and other such exotic dishes.

On the menu alongside Nkono’s usual tasty treats will be grilled salmon, pheasant and for those with more adventurous tastes, shark.
